I’m not sure exactly why, but although I think this is truly impressive, I don’t ‘like it.’ Maybe it’s a warmth thing?
But don’t let that stop you from watching it - because it is still a stunning thing to see….
One of our criticisms of all things Beijing 2008 is the total absence of an international athlete in any of the communications for anything. I’m living in Beijing now and have blogged about it a bit.
Not a very original idea, and you’re right - it feels cold. The insight of everyone being behind the athlete is always used and not necessarily wrong, but I think Visa’s ads from last year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia tap into it in a warmer and far more convincing manner (see below) … and use a very similar executional thought:
