David, Wispa is like the L&P of Chocolate. Hope now it can make sense to you. If not, then I can be of no help. But needless to say its a much loved brand everyone is familiar with. Doing a typical ad would have ruined the brand and the essence I suspect. That’s why I believe this approach to be not only right, but enjoyable as well.

Ok, well, this is a little embarrassing; but here goes: I had no idea what the commercial was for.

Or, rather, I thought it was for an animal charity called WSPA. You can see where the confusion comes from if you visit their site – it was the panda bear…

By the end of it I was baffled. Couldn’t get the thought that their carbon pawprint must be absolutely monumental. The ad was certainly mental.

Nothing like a dose of post-modern surrealism to make one’s head spin.

Amelia, the flu has gone to your head!
As has the dose of cynicism.
Maybe you don’t like it because it is different? Or because you realy don’t believe things like this can be true.
What’s forced about having a group of people that love Wispa contributing to an event? Yes they love Wispa and yes they might just like being on TV and youtube as well. Not mutually exclusive. This is a great idea well executed and right on tone of the brand. When I first heard about it I was struck by the openess of the idea. It felt like it came from those loyalists and culminated in a nice, bang on piece of footage. And I am not surprised you hated the quote of happiness and friends, it seems to be outside your comprehension that that may have been possible because it was for advertising. Guess you had to be there.

Truly Bah Humbug – who’d have thought?!
Maybe I’ve bought into the marketing hype around it, but I didn’t have the same reaction – I’ll admit it’s all influenced by the Facebook group that called for the revival of Wispa in the first place, but I thought they’d got a lot of people mobilised and involved in something with some feelgood factor – albeit in the self-interest of appearing on TV, but they did so knowing they were going to be on TV supporting a brand. And surely that means you’ve got to feel that linking your face with that brand is OK in your world – admittedly, that’s more tacit approval than fanaticism, but it’s OK in my world.
Hope you feel better soon – maybe cheer yourself up by watching old Tony Kaye ads???!! Simon

i am at home with flu, so maybe a bit more grouchy than usual but this didn’t work for me at all. Didn’t it feel forced at all to you? The website was less about love for Wispa and more about simply finding people who ticked the boxes. As one of the old blokes remarked, “They were looking for choirs…and we thought we’d have a go.”
They’re not doing it for the love of Wispa, surely its for the love of seeing themselves on TV or YouTube?
And I HATED this quote: The day was full of: “people smiling, making friends, eating chocolate…”

Thanks so much for sharing. Really love the way they simply provided an outlet for people to demonstrate their passion. That really comes through in the “making of” video.
