Nice when it works…

Advertising Age named Goodby, Silverstein & Partners’ work for Hewlett- Packard as U.S. Campaign of the Year. Goodby’s “The computer is personal again” campaign was praised for “making the PC stand once again for ‘personal computer’ and not for what it has become — a personal commodity.”
Meanwhile, from today’s Wall Street Journal:
SAN FRANCISCO — Hewlett-Packard Co. increased its lead over Dell Inc. in world-wide personal-computer shipments in the fourth quarter, two prominent research firms said.
Dell had taken the No. 1 position in 2003, but H-P narrowly edged out its biggest rival to retake the shipment lead in the third period.
Gartner Inc. said H-P, the Palo Alto, Calif., tech giant, managed to increase its PC shipments by 24% in the fourth quarter over the year-earlier period. As a result, H-P’s worldwide market share swelled to 17.4% … (and that’s all I got from the newsire).
Apologies for the self-serving celebration, but it’s good to see stuff that works.
And good to have those examples to hand.
Meanwhile, they’ve launched a new mini-site where you can make your own ad. Have a look at it here.

And, thanks to Abbott Research & Consulting for spotting it first.
I played around with this awhile ago - it works pretty well if you upload a very recognizable image of a face.
You reminded me to post about that HP ad with the little girl from Little Miss Sunshine, which i only just saw - very cute! I love Goodby!
I had heard that this campaign was very successful, but had not heard that it won awards. Cool, and thanks for the hat tip.
