Two old favourites…

These were on Teressa Lezzi’s picks of the best ads from last year. Although she had others, these two really stood out for me.
The American Express ad because those had got slightly stale for me. And this just felt like Wes Anderson wrote it – or, at least, had a big part in how it played out…
And, this corker for Gears of War from X-Box (and McCanns)
I must admit that I don’t remember the name of the game each time, but I DO remember that it’s X-Box. And, rather than just seeing it in reviews and online, I caught it on TV because it cut through so strongly. Best thing from X-Box since the old Fred & Farid work “Cradle to Grave.”
Even if you do like the Train Station spot, which was probably more notable for being banned…
Why was this banned?
Oh wait, yeah, cos video games insight violence, death and hatred, and have nothing to do with improving skillsets or problem solving, let alone community, friendship and collaboration.
Everyone should read “Everything Bad is Good for You”
The Gears of War spot is great, but the choice of music really bugs me. That tune is just wrong, completely dated.
Damn. The music’s such a big part of why I love that ad – the surprise of Mad World against the game footage. Does that just make me old?
